History

BLAST FROM THE PAST

From humble beginnings in the 1930s to becoming Texas’ oldest independent fireworks company, our story is one of passion, perseverance, and pride. The Cannon family’s dream continues to light up lives one spark at a time.

1770s — The U.S. Settlers
Early American settlers brought fireworks with them. John Adams famously declared that Independence Day should be celebrated with “bonfires and illuminations.” Fireworks have been part of the tradition ever since.
1830s — Colorful Explosions
Italian families discovered how to add metals to fireworks, creating the brilliant colors we enjoy today—before that, fireworks were only fire-colored.
1930s–40s — The Cannon & Girdley Families
The Cannon family sold fireworks door-to-door. Later, Mary Cannon and Harvey Girdley married, took over the business during WWII, and expanded it with stands and wholesale operations.
1958 — Move to San Antonio
Seeking warmer weather, the Girdley family moved to San Antonio, where the name Alamo Fireworks was born.
1962 — Official Incorporation
Alamo Fireworks became a registered Texas corporation and helped shape fireworks safety legislation as a key player in the industry.
Today and Beyond — Creating Happy Memories
Alamo Fireworks now has more indoor stores than any competitor in Texas, dedicated to helping families make memories that sparkle.
